Cosmic radiation does not prevent collisional charging in (pre)-planetary atmospheres

چکیده

In (pre)-planetary environments, dust and sand grains regularly collide. They electrically charge discharge during these events. this work, we study if cosmic radiation has any influence on the equilibrium state timescales of minutes. We developed an experiment that was carried out ascent a stratospheric balloon. With increasing altitude, activity increases by factor 54. However, found only very minor decrease in grain charges up to 30%. This implies charge-moderated processes from thunderstorms Earth, over early phases planet formation particle motion Martian surface short essentially proceed unhindered direct radiation.

H3+ cooling in planetary atmospheres.

We review the role of H3+ in planetary atmospheres, with a particular emphasis on its effect in cooling and stabilising, an effect that has been termed the "H3+ thermostat" (see Miller et al., Philos. Trans. R. Soc. London, Ser. A, 2000, 58, 2485). In the course of our analysis of this effect, we found that cooling functions that make use of the partition function, Q(T) based on the calculated ...

Exact results in modeling planetary atmospheres–I. Gray atmospheres

An exact model is proposed for a gray, isotropically scattering planetary atmosphere in radiative equilibrium. The slab is illuminated on one side by a collimated beam and is bounded on the other side by an emitting and partially reflecting ground. We provide expressions for the incident and reflected fluxes on both boundary surfaces, as well as the temperature of the ground and the temperature...

Pre-conditioned backward Monte Carlo solutions to radiative transport in planetary atmospheres

Context. The interpretation of polarised radiation emerging from a planetary atmosphere must rely on solutions to the vector radiative transport equation (VRTE). Monte Carlo integration of the VRTE is a valuable approach for its flexible treatment of complex viewing and/or illumination geometries, and it can intuitively incorporate elaborate physics. Aims. We present a novel pre-conditioned bac...

Early administration of IL-6RA does not prevent radiation-induced lung injury in mice

BACKGROUND Radiation pneumonia and subsequent radiation lung fibrosis are major dose-limiting complications for patients undergoing thoracic radiotherapy. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine and plays important roles in the regulation of immune response and inflammation. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether anti-IL-6 monoclonal receptor antibody (IL-6RA) could amelior...
